Chronic pain

Neurointerventional pain procedures encompass a range of minimally invasive techniques aimed at diagnosing and treating chronic pain conditions originating from the nervous system. These procedures aim to interrupt or modulate the transmission of pain signals along the nerves, providing relief for various chronic pain conditions, including back pain, neck pain and neuropathic pain.

Our expert pain neurointerventionists provide comprehensive pain assessment and management including medications, physical therapy, rehabilitation referrals, diagnostic blocks as well as minimally invasive procedures.

In our centre, we offer pain procedures for chronic back pain, neck pain and neuropathic facial pain (trigeminal neuralgia).

1. Epidural Steroid Injections: These injections deliver corticosteroids directly into the epidural space around the spinal cord to reduce inflammation and alleviate pain associated with conditions like herniated discs or spinal stenosis.

2. Facet Joint Injections/Medial Branch Nerve Blocks: Facet joints are small joints located between vertebrae in the spine. Injections into these joints can help diagnose and treat pain stemming from arthritis or injury.

3. Radiofrequency Ablation (RFA): RFA uses heat generated from radio waves to disrupt nerve function temporarily, providing relief from pain. It's often used for conditions like facet joint pain, nerve root pain and trigeminal neuralgia.

4. Percutaneous Laser Disc Decompression: minimally invasive procedure used to treat certain types of disc-related back pain, particularly when caused by a herniated or bulging disc pressing on nearby nerves.

5.Trigeminal Nerve Blocks: interventional procedure used to diagnose and treat chronic and severe pain associated with the trigeminal nerve.

6.Percutaneous Vertebroplasty and Kyphoplasty: These procedures involve injecting bone cement into fractured vertebrae to stabilize them and relieve pain associated with vertebral compression fractures, often caused by osteoporosis.
